Catherine Ford, born in Bloomsbury (London) She was raised by her mother, her grandmother, and godparents. Her father was absent from her family. As a child Ford was afflicted with anxiety due to an obsessional disorder. Ford was interested in the field of acting during her teens and joined National Youth Theatre. After being accepted to Sylvia Young Theatre School for brief time but Ford realized it wasn't the ideal place for her. Ford returned to Central School of Speech and Drama and, on her fourth attempt she was accepted. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler in Doctor Who. Ford graduated in 1993. She already made a TV appearance in a 1992 episode of Surgical Spirit. She adopted the stage name Catherine Tate. Tate began her TV debut in 1991, appearing in shows such as The Bill. Men Behaving Badly. and London's Burning. Her regular work in theatre has led to her joining The Royal Shakespeare Company, for the 2000-2001 Season. Tate was first noticed because of her stand-up comedic performances in the year 1996.
